Common Questions

Telehealth means you can be supported from the comfort of your own home. No travel, no parking, no shoes required! Some people feel a little nervous about virtual sessions, that’s understandable. There can be many thoughts: Will I feel the same connection? What if I can’t work the technology? Is the care going to be the same?

I have thought things through:

  • We are in this together. I’ll spend time with you at the start of our first session to ensure you are comfortable with the online environment
  • Secure and easy-to-use telehealth platform, Coviu. No downloads or logins required – just click and connect on any device connected to the internet
  • Research shows that care via telehealth is as effective as in-person care with counselling for behaviour change

If you have never seen a dietitian, or if this is your first experience with a different approach, you might be wondering what happens during a consult. The first session together is about you sharing your food and body story. We identify what you would like to achieve in our work. There will be questions to guide the session, our conversation focuses on:

  • What your history with food looks like
  • Your views around body image and body concerns
  • Your current health and how food fits in your life

We will then start to discuss a plan for our work, and outline the roadmap needed to get you closer to the change you are looking for. We will also discuss the supports that would be beneficial for your journey.

For each subsequent session, we will spend 50 minutes together:

  • Delving deeper into certain areas of your health, food, eating, or body image story
  • Discussing activities you’ve tried between sessions and thoughts you’ve noted
  • Learning about topics related to eating, food, the body, and health
  • Sharing resources, including podcasts, books, blogs, or activities, that will support your journey

Have you been told the only way to better health is through weight loss? Can you manage health without focusing on the scales?

I practice Medical Nutrition Therapy using the Health at Every Size® framework. I celebrate the fact that bodies come in all shapes and sizes, which means you have permission to focus on health rather than weight and shape.

Health is influenced by many things; our life story can impact this in so many ways. Food and movement are often peddled as the only way to improve your health and that has to be through weight loss. With the non-diet approach, we look at how food and movement can improve our current state of wellbeing in a way that enhances your life, not as part of some rule book that has to be followed. Because we all have the right to quality healthcare and are capable of treating our bodies well no matter what size or shape your body is right now.
